The route of springs

A beautifull ride along a line of fountais on the Judaean mountains, west of Jerusalem.

Jerusalem is located on the main ridge of the Judaean mountains, which is built of folded sedimentary rocks, mostly limestone and dolomite. This geological form is rich with 'Layer springs', emerging between the rock layers.

The vegetation of then Judaean mountains is a combination of natural Mediterranean maquis

and pein trees, planted by the J.N.F.

On this tour we will circle (actually form a'U') around the Aminadav ridge, by the west outskirts of Jerusalem. The first part goes above the Soreq valley, along a line of springs, with small ponds, some with a tunnel carved in the rock to reach the water source. The second half of the tour goes along the Refa'im valley, where the Tel Aviv - Jerusalem rail road runs since 1892 (originaly started from Jaffa).

Optional: The Kennedy memorial.

It is possible to bath in the ponds but you will have to share it with the locale population of Algae, various water bugs and Amphibians (shouldn't be unhealthy).

Note: The tour includes a few rather steep down hill phases, and not suitable for beginners.
