Caesarea & its Aqueducts

Down the Taninim stream, along the aqueducts of  Caesarea, and to the ancient city it self.

Caesarea Maritima city and harbor was built by king Herod at the end of the 1st century B.C. The city has been the capital of Israel through the late Roman and Byzantine era and was populated till the end of the Crusaders era (late 13th century). Its impressive ruins lie on the Mediterranean coast of Israel, about halfway between Tel Aviv and Haifa.

Along the centuries, several aqueduct systems was built, to supply water for the growing population of the city.

 

On this tour we will start in N.P. Alona, where a tunnel was dug to reach the water source (2nd. century). From there we will ride down the Taninim stream, along the remains of the ancient aqueducts and will see the different phases of the system. We will end the tour in N.P. Caesarea and see the different stages of the ancient city.

 

By the harbor of Caesarea there is a complex of restaurants and a beach.
